The stage is set for the rise of another son in the political scene of Bihar, as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant is going to join Janata Dal (United) on Holi. Bihar Minister Shravan Kumar on Tuesday announced that Nishant Kumar will be given a bigger responsibility in the party.
News agency ANI, quoting a conversation with Shravan Kumar, said that this step has been taken in response to the demands of party workers and the people of Bihar.
Shravan Kumar said, “On the occasion of Holi, as per the demand of the youth of Bihar and JDU workers, Nishant Kumar is fully joining the party. The party will decide what responsibility will be assigned to him, but I am telling you one thing, he will be given a big responsibility. We are very happy.”
Responding to speculations about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar joining Janata Dal (United), Bihar Minister Ashok Choudhary on Tuesday said that Nishant should join active politics.
Chaudhary described him as an educated engineer who reflects the style, decency and simplicity of Nitish Kumar.
Choudhary stressed that the step has been taken by party workers and is not Nitish Kumar’s decision.
Ashok Chaudhary said, “He should be in active politics. He is an educated engineer and is an exact copy of Nitish’s physical posture, decency and simplicity. All this is happening at the behest of party workers. This is not Nitish’s decision. Party workers have been demanding this for a long time. So, this will be a great Holi gift.”
There has been speculation about Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics ever since the National Democratic Alliance’s landslide victory in Bihar in the 2025 assembly elections.
In December 2025, JDU working president Sanjay Jha said in the presence of Nishant Kumar that party members and supporters want him to work for the party. He also said that the timing of his entry is Nishant’s decision.
The JDU leader told reporters, “Party people, party well-wishers, party supporters and everyone in the party want Nishant ji (Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son) to come and work in the party. We all want the same. Now he has to take a decision. He has to decide when he will take the decision and start working in the party.”
Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Jha also said in an interview to ANI that the party will respect Nitish Kumar’s decision regarding his son’s political debut, provided Nishant’s own interest remains intact.
He acknowledged the role of Nitish Kumar, as the founder of JDU, in shaping such decisions.
Jha had said, “This is a party formed by Nitish Kumar. Now, after this election, he can take whatever decision he wants to take on this issue. But this much is certain: If Nitish Kumar takes a decision, the entire party will accept it.”
