New Delhi, April 16 (IANS). A three-day special session of Parliament has been called regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at the central government regarding this session. He said that without conducting census and including backward classes, the government has brought this bill for appeasement.

While talking to the media in New Delhi, the SP chief said that those who are bringing the women’s reservation bill without census and without including OBCs, are bringing this bill for appeasement when their own voters rejected them. We are not against women’s reservation but in favor of it, but why are they bringing this bill at this time? Why do they not want the census conducted? If there had been a census, many changes would have occurred.

Akhilesh Yadav said that last time all the parties in the House had supported women’s reservation. Tell us which party did not support it. Every party had supported it, but there is a conspiracy behind it, and there are some hidden people who have secretly prepared a new map of constituencies. This question is related to delimitation—how will you redraw the boundaries of constituencies?

On the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, SP MP Ziaur Rehman Burke said that the allegation of Muslim appeasement is wrong. We say that reservation should be given to the Muslim community on the basis of their backward status. We are not demanding reservation on the basis of religion, but reservation should be given on the basis of backwardness so that their political position can be strengthened.

SP MP Mohibullah Nadvi termed the bill as baseless and said that the government has no issues left, hence they have made women’s issues an election slogan. What should have been meant to be a matter of respect has been turned into politics. Economically weaker people, irrespective of party, should get reservation.

SP MP Dimple Yadav said that this bill was passed unanimously in 2023. The opposition is not against it. At that time it was decided that it would be implemented after the census and the subsequent delimitation. All political parties are united in support of the bill, then why is its form being changed again and again. You talk about 2029, okay, we are ready. Implement 33 percent reservation for women on all 543 parliamentary seats now. Samajwadi Party is fully ready for this.

SP MP Pushpendra Saroj said that our leader Akhilesh Yadav had said that we should not forget the population which includes OBC as well as Muslim women. BJP uses these issues for its political gains, whereas Samajwadi Party talks about every section, be it SC, OBC or Muslim community.
