Amravati, March 28 (IANS). Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday moved an important resolution in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, urging the Central government to give statutory recognition to Amaravati as the official capital of the state.
This session of the Assembly was specifically called to discuss and pass the resolution demanding legal status of Amaravati as the capital, which is an important step towards bringing clarity and stability on the issue of the capital city.
In his address, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that legal certainty on the capital issue can be achieved through appropriate amendments in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014. Accordingly, the Assembly resolved to request the Government of India to amend Section 5 of the Act. This amendment will be made in sub-section (2) by adding the words ‘in Amaravati’ and by expanding the Explanation, so as to clarify that Amaravati includes the areas notified under the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Act, 2014.
In his speech, the Chief Minister urged all the members of the House to deliberate on the proposal and give their full support.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet had approved the proposal related to Amaravati on Thursday. Chief Minister Naidu had already requested the Central Government to grant legal recognition to Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
