Kolkata, December 3 (IANS). More than 46 lakh names have been identified for deletion from the voter list in West Bengal during the special intensive revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) during the digitization of enumeration forms that began on November 4.
According to the trend of digitization of counting forms completed till Tuesday evening, the total number of names found eligible to be removed from the voter list is currently 46.30 lakh.
According to the trend of digitization completed till Monday evening, this number was 43.50 lakh. This means that within 24 hours a total of 2.70 lakh names have been included in the list of names eligible to be removed from the voter list.
People inside the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal have said that out of the 46.20 lakh names that could be removed from the list till Tuesday evening, about 22.28 lakh names fall in the “dead voters” category.
A total of around 6.40 lakh voters have been identified in the “missing voters” category. About 16.22 lakh voters have been identified in the “transferred voters” category, which means they have permanently shifted somewhere else due to reasons like marriage and job. Finally, about 1.05 lakh voters have been identified in the “duplicate” voters category, which means voters who are present at two places at the same time.
According to the voter list as of October 27, the total number of voters in West Bengal is 7,66,37,529. On Tuesday evening, the Election Commission reported that there has been a huge change in the number of such polling stations in the state and the number has come down in just 24 hours, with not a single dead voter, duplicate voter (having names at two places), or voter who has moved elsewhere.
On Monday, the ECI had identified 2,208 polling booths in West Bengal where there is not a single dead voter, duplicate voter or shifted voter.
