Big order of High Court! Ban on Cockroach Janata Party's

Cockroach Janata Party has received a big blow from Delhi High Court. On Friday (May 29), the court refused to direct immediate restoration of social media ‘X’ account linked to Abhijit Deepak-led Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Justice Purushendra Kumar Kaurav presided over the hearing on Deepak’s petition. The court termed some of the content posted on CJP’s social media accounts as ‘objectionable’ and refused to grant immediate relief on the petition filed by party founder Deepak. The court said that it is necessary to consider all aspects of the case and it will pass any order only after hearing the arguments of both the government and ‘X’ platform.

High Court issued notice to the Central Government

Acting on a petition filed by CJP founder Abhijit Deepak, the Delhi High Court issued notice to the Central government. This petition challenges the central government’s order to ban the party’s ‘X’ handle. Citing national security concerns, the government had banned this Twitter account in India. Delhi High Court has not issued any order to immediately lift the ban on ‘X’ handles.

CJP’s ‘X’ handle blocked on May 21

The ‘X’ handle of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) was ‘blocked’ in India on May 21. Subsequently, a new handle named ‘Cockroach is Back’ was created, which currently has over 227,000 followers. Deepak – who was earlier associated with the Aam Aadmi Party – launched the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on May 15. The launch comes amid the ongoing controversy over the comments of Justice Surya Kant, who had called some persons ‘cockroaches’ and ‘parasites’ during the hearing of a petition related to the post of senior advocates.

CJP launched on 16 May

The CJP, which was launched on May 16, claims it aims to establish an independent movement for youth, aiming to strengthen their voice and hold the government accountable. Recently, it launched a campaign demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged systemic failures in the education sector and the issue of NEET-UG 2026 paper ‘leaking’.

On 16 May, the Chief Justice issued a strong clarification of his comments, in which he said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by reports that he had criticized youth. He stressed that his comments were specifically against those who have entered the legal profession through ‘fake and illegal degrees’, and that a section of the media had ‘misrepresented’ his words.
