BJP did not form government, so Jammu and Kashmir did not get state status: Omar Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday targeted the BJP and said that the delay in restoring state status is unfair to the people.

Talking to reporters, Abdullah said that the BJP has been delayed and opposed to it since the BJP has lost the state status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister said, “People participated in the election process. It is the misfortune of the BJP that they could not win. But the people here cannot be punished for it. It seems that the BJP has not formed the government, so state status has not been restored. It is an injustice to the people. The state status opposition is coming from the BJP.”

CM Abdullah considered the delay in restoring state status as the biggest challenge and said that the state status has not been restored despite the Center telling the Supreme Court about the three-step process of delimitation, election and state status.

He said, “The biggest challenge is that we are no longer a state. We were expecting promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The Supreme Court was told that the three-phase process would be implemented: delimitation, followed by election and state status. The status of the status and elections.

When asked about the arrests in connection with the ongoing ‘I Love Muhammad’ slogan across the country, the Chief Minister said, “Why will anyone object to this? I do not understand how people are arrested by writing these three words? It means that the case is really mentally ill. I want the courts to interfere in it. They write. If it is not illegal, how can it be called illegal? “

It is worth noting that since the cancellation of Article 370, the people of Kashmir as well as the regional parties have been continuously demanding the restoration of state status. On 5 August 2019, the Center ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the then states into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir (with Assembly) and Ladakh (without assembly).

The Supreme Court of India on August 14 this year heard a petition seeking instructions to the Center to restore the state status of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Supreme Court said that the ground situation there cannot be ignored while giving state status to Jammu and Kashmir. Also, the incidents of Pahalgam cannot be ignored.
