Hyderabad, July 5 (IANS). National President of All India Mahila Congress, Alka Lamba accused the BJP government at the Center of weakening democracy and the Constitution. He claimed that BJP is harming democratic institutions by horse-trading the representatives of political parties. He also cornered the Central Government on issues like inflation, unemployment, paper leak, women’s reservation law and the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.

While talking to journalists in Hyderabad, Alka Lamba said, “Congress considers the BJP government as a threat to democracy and the Constitution. Earlier there were allegations of voter manipulation, and now efforts are being made to capture the seats of political parties by breaking the elected representatives. The BJP is weakening the democratic system by horse-trading MLAs and MPs. The attempt to break the public representatives of the opposition parties is against the spirit of democracy. The government protested. It is also resorting to false cases to suppress the voice.”

Alka Lamba claimed that efforts were being made to cause political harm to parties like Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party. According to him, the government has lost its moral ground and is adopting various methods to save power.

On the organizational expansion of Mahila Congress, he said that the organization has strengthened rapidly in Telangana. He said that in the last three months, organizational activities have been increased in 19 districts of the state and the membership campaign has received good support.

He said, “Telangana Mahila Congress ranks first in the country in the membership drive. So far, more than 1.16 lakh women have taken membership. The state women’s executive and new district presidents will also be announced soon.”

Regarding the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, Alka Lamba said that Mahila Congress will protest in Delhi along with women from across the country under the ‘Chalo Sansad’ campaign. He said that the demand for early implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act will be one of the major issues.

He alleged that the central government is delaying the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act. Apart from this, he also termed the incidents of paper leaks in various competitive examinations including NEET, unemployment and inflation as serious issues. He said that the government is not being accountable on these matters.

Alka Lamba also objected to a statement by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and said that accountability should be fixed for the statements made in Parliament. He said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will strongly raise issues of public interest inside the Parliament and Mahila Congress on the streets. She clarified that Mahila Congress will further intensify its agitation against the Central Government during the monsoon session.
