Kolkata, June 28 (IANS). In West Bengal, BJP has taken a sharp stance on the issue of implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). BJP leader Rahul Sinha said that Mamata Banerjee is now alone and UCC will continue to be implemented in Bengal.

Speaking to IANS, Rahul Sinha said, “Mamata Banerjee is alone; what can she do? Both Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee are not in the assembly. Those who are in the assembly now are all anti-Mamata. Mamata Banerjee is the leader of the smallest party right now; she was expelled from Trinamool Congress.”

He clearly said, “I am saying directly that the Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in Bengal. Currently, UCC has been implemented in three states in India; West Bengal will be at number four. The country is one, the people are one, so the law should also be one.”

Taking a dig at Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Sinha said, “What will happen if someone files a complaint who does not have numbers. She is calling herself a Trinamool, but she does not have numbers. She has no MLAs and no MPs. All the people of TMC ran away. She lost the election, but still says that she is the Chief Minister. The Governor pushed her out. If Mamata Banerjee loves self-respect, then she should leave politics.”

Emphasizing the need for UCC, BJP MLA Sarbari Mukherjee said, “UCC is very important in Bengal. Demography is changing; our demography in the border line area has completely changed, due to which the entire country is worried. Just as triple talaq was good for Muslims, the UCC bill will also bring the same benefit. BJP and West Bengal government are fighting for equality.”

BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar said, “Mamata had talked about not implementing UCC, but right now she is not in the government, so it will be implemented. Our government is going to implement it and discussion on it will start from tomorrow.”
