New Delhi, May 30 (IANS). Political rhetoric regarding the attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in West Bengal is continuously increasing. Several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party reacted to the incident, calling it a result of public anger, although they denied supporting any form of violence.

BJP spokesperson in Delhi RP Singh said that Abhishek Banerjee should also understand the level of public anger. He claimed that the man whose family Abhishek Banerjee had come to meet was murdered and was involved in drug-related cases. Due to this reason there was resentment among the local people.

RP Singh said that the same anger was seen there where people protesting against him threw eggs at him.

Economist and BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh also reacted on the matter. He said that any kind of violence is not acceptable in a democracy and BJP does not support it, however, he advised Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee to introspect and said that the people attacking them are said to be workers of their own party.

At the same time, BJP MP from Bankura, West Bengal, Soumitra Khan called this incident an expression of public anger. He said that the police was fully active that day, due to which no major and serious accident took place.

Praising the role of the police, he said that due to the security arrangements, the situation remained under control and any major incident was averted.

On the other hand, Kshudiram Tudu, minister in the West Bengal government, rejected the allegations against the BJP. He said that Abhishek Banerjee was provided police protection and the BJP does not believe in the politics of violence.

Kshudiram Tudu said that if BJP had done politics based on violence, it would not have won 208 seats in West Bengal.

After the attack on Abhishek Banerjee, the round of allegations and counter-allegations has intensified in the state politics and different parties are looking at this incident from their own perspective.
