Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday said she will no longer visit big memorials dedicated to prominent social reformers on the occasion of their birth and death anniversaries as the security arrangements made for them cause inconvenience to the common people.
Mayawati, in a detailed post on ‘X’, said that during the four tenures of the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Shri Narayan Guru, Dr. B. R. Great social reformers and icons like Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram, who were often “ignored” in “casteist party” governments, were respected.
The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said that the BSP government launched several major welfare schemes in the name of these leaders and built grand memorials, parks and memorials in Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar, which have now turned into “pilgrimage sites” for their supporters and are visited by a large number of people on their birth and death anniversaries.
Mayawati said her visits to these places cause inconvenience to people due to heavy security arrangements. “Experience shows that the security arrangements made during my visit cause problems to people, as people are stopped far away from the main site until I leave,” she said.
The BSP chief said that keeping this in mind, she will now pay tribute to these great men only at her residence or party office and not by visiting memorials.
He said that on December 6, Dr. B. R. On the occasion of Ambedkar’s death anniversary, workers and supporters of Uttar Pradesh (except Western Uttar Pradesh) will gather in large numbers at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Social Change Site in Lucknow, while people from Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand will pay tribute at the National Dalit Inspiration Site in Noida. He said he would also pledge to carry forward Ambedkar’s mission of social equality and self-respect, so that the BSP can “move towards achieving power” and carry forward the movement started by this great man.
