Kolkata, June 5 (IANS). CBI has got a big success in the investigation of the murder case of Chandranath Rath, a close aide and personal assistant of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. CBI has arrested two accused from Lucknow and Ballia of Uttar Pradesh in this case.
According to CBI sources, Vikas Mishra was arrested from a hotel located at Ashok Marg in Lucknow, while the second accused Golu Singh was caught from Ballia. Both are accused of shooting dead Chandranath Rath on May 6.
It is reported that after the incident, seriously injured Chandranath Rath was immediately taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead. This murder also created a stir in Bengal politics.
Meanwhile, another accused in the case, Gyanendra Pratap Singh alias Monu, surrendered in the Gangster Act court of Ballia on Thursday. The court has sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. According to the local police, Monu is a history-sheeter and has 12 criminal cases already registered against him.
Considering the seriousness of the murder, the investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI. After taking over the investigation from Bengal Police, CBI registered a formal FIR in this case and intensified the investigation.
The CBI has constituted a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a DIG from the Delhi-based Special Crime Unit to investigate this high-profile case. The investigating agency is now investigating the entire conspiracy of the murder, the network of the accused and the possible reasons behind the incident.
CBI sources said that both the arrested accused will be produced in the special court in Kolkata after completing the legal process. At the same time, the investigating agency is also deeply investigating other aspects related to the case and the role of possible accused.
