New Delhi, May 25 (IANS). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the alleged dowry murder of Twisha in Bhopal. The agency has started investigation by re-registering the already registered FIR at Katara Hills police station in Bhopal. CBI has appointed DSP Nishu Kushwaha as the investigating officer to investigate the case.
This case is from Katara Hills area of Bhopal, where Twisha died under suspicious circumstances on May 12. Seeing the seriousness of the case, the Madhya Pradesh government gave consent under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act and handed over the case to the CBI. After this, the Department of Personnel and Training of the Central Government issued a notification on 25 May, granting CBI the authority to investigate in the entire Madhya Pradesh.
CBI has registered a case in this matter under sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code as well as sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The agency registered the case under FIR on 25 May 2026.
According to the FIR, Twisha was married to Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. Ever since the marriage, the in-laws have been accused of harassing them regarding dowry. The complaint states that Twisha was constantly harassed mentally and physically. Those made accused in the case include Giribala Singh (mother-in-law) and Samarth Singh (husband).
According to the FIR, the police received information about the woman’s death at around 10:20 pm on May 12. Initial investigation and medical report revealed that Twisha died due to hanging. The post mortem report has confirmed “antemortem hanging” i.e. hanging while alive.
However, in the post-mortem, injury marks were also found on other parts of the body. According to the report, these injuries could have been caused by assault or violence with a heavy object. The family of the deceased alleged that additional dowry was being demanded continuously after the marriage. It has also been said in the complaint that around Rs 2 lakh was taken under pressure during the marriage.
The family also alleged that Twisha was pregnant in April 2026, but her husband and mother-in-law put pressure on her, questioning her character and got her aborted.
Now CBI will conduct a detailed investigation into dowry death, torture, conspiracy and other possible criminal aspects in this case.
