Chennai, June 6 (IANS). DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan reacted while speaking to IANS on Annamalai’s resignation from BJP, census and TVK government meeting.

DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan told IANS, “We want the Government of India to conduct a caste-based census, as the jurisdiction of the census lies with the government. Nainar Nagendran and Anbumani Ramadoss have also demanded a caste-based census. If they support the idea, Nainar Nagendran should ask his party leadership and senior leaders to get it done.”

In the first cabinet meeting of the TVK-led government, an ambitious action plan containing 436 long-term development initiatives was presented. Regarding this meeting, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said, “What exactly are these projects? They should release the list of projects they are planning to start. Till now they have only given the numbers, but have not revealed which projects they are going to implement.”

On more than 11 lakh people joining the movement started by Annamalai, TKS Elangovan said, “They like Annamalai more than the current BJP state president Nainar Nagendran and consider him a better leader.”

It is noteworthy that former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai resigned from the primary membership of the BJP on Friday. After this, in the afternoon he launched a new political organization ‘We Leaders’. He announced that his party would contest the next assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

In a video message released on social media, K. Annamalai said his decision was motivated by his desire to carry forward the mission that had initially inspired him to enter public life. He told that he had joined BJP to bring positive change in Tamil Nadu and improve the lives of the people, but now he has chosen a different political path. Annamalai said he had informed the BJP leadership about his intention to leave the party in December 2025. Senior leaders had requested him to remain with the party till the Tamil Nadu elections before formally stepping down.

He said that he had consulted top BJP leaders before taking the final decision. Expressing deep respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Annamalai said that he has had differences with the BJP on many issues in the last 18 months.
