Amravati, April 2 (IANS). After the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2026 was passed in the Lok Sabha, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday called on people to celebrate in all the villages of Amaravati region.

The new bill removes a long-standing structural uncertainty that has affected governance, investment and development by providing legal recognition to Amaravati as the sole capital. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and is likely to be passed by the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

During a tele-conference with NDA leaders, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said festive programs should be organized in every village after the bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday evening. He said that once the bill gets approval in the Rajya Sabha, the legislative process in Parliament will be considered complete.

He said, “It is a time for everyone to celebrate our capital in whatever manner they deem fit. Everyone should express their gratitude to the Central government for the approval of the Amaravati Bill today.”

The Chief Minister announced that he would go to Uddandarayunipalem to join the celebrations. This is the same place where the foundation stone of the capital city was laid. He said Uddandarayunipalem is a sacred site where soil and water collected from various holy pilgrimage sites across the country have been preserved.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their cooperation in ensuring the stability of the capital city. He also thanked all the parties who supported this bill.

He criticized former chief minister and YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, saying he had left the state without a capital for five years.

He said, “Jagan Mohan Reddy does not even like taking the name Amaravati. That is why he has coined this strange name ‘Mavigun’.”

Jagan Mohan Reddy had on Wednesday said that the YSR Congress Party had also given a ‘Plan B’ to develop the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur (Mavigun) corridor as the capital region, but the coalition government did not even consider that. Naidu reminded that earlier, when an institute was named ‘SRM Amaravati’, Jagan had got the name changed to just ‘SRM’.

He said, “Jagan starts hating the name Amravati as soon as he hears it and he keeps spewing venom against it. Yesterday’s events have made it clear that Jagan’s anti-Amravati attitude is not going to change in future also.”

The Chief Minister appealed to every citizen to awaken the feeling in their mind that Amravati is our capital. “Everyone should pray that the development we have envisioned will proceed without any hindrance and successfully,” he said.

He said, “In the last 5 years, critics have been mocking us and taunting, do you really intend to have three capitals? Finally, the day has come when we can declare with pride and honor that Amaravati is our one and only capital.”

He reiterated that the government will ensure that a High Court bench is set up in Kurnool at the earliest.

Jana Sena Party minister Nadendla Manohar and BJP state unit president Madhav participated in the tele-conference and welcomed the passing of the bill. He announced that both Jana Sena and BJP would participate in the programs scheduled for this evening.
