In the civic elections held in Maharashtra, BJP once again proved that their status has increased in the state. However, in the meantime a case has slightly increased the political heat. In fact, 22 BJP candidates in the recently concluded Amravati Municipal Corporation elections have written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding the expulsion of former MP Navneet Rana for allegedly campaigning against the party.
Of the 22 complainants, only two won the municipal elections held on January 15, while 20 faced defeat.
He claimed that former Amravati Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana aggressively termed the saffron party’s candidates as “fake” and promoted her husband Ravi Rana’s Yuva Swabhiman Party candidates as “real BJP candidates”.
Ahead of the municipal elections, the BJP and MLA Ravi Rana’s Yuva Swabhiman Party had broken their alliance. However, a local BJP leader had said that Navneet Rana would continue to campaign for the saffron party’s candidates.
Of the 87 members of Amravati Municipal Corporation, BJP won 25 seats, Yuva Swabhiman Party and Congress 15 seats each, AIMIM 12, NCP 11, Shiv Sena and BSP 3 seats each, Shiv Sena (UBT) 2 seats and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi 1 seat.
In the last election, BJP had won 45 seats and Yuva Swabhiman Party had won 3 seats.
Hurt by the defeat of 20 BJP candidates, both the losing and winning candidates on Saturday wrote letters to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis alleging that their defeat was not because of the public but because of Navneet Rana.
He said, “We are dedicated and hardworking party workers, who are connected to the society. But our defeat in this election is not because of the opposition, but because of senior BJP leader Navneet Rana openly campaigning against the party.”
They have demanded that Navneet Rana be expelled from the BJP and alleged that if she is not shown the way out, she will destroy the party’s presence in Amravati city in future.
There has been no reaction from the former MP on this matter yet.
