In the backdrop of the recent violence in Ladakh, the Congress said on Friday that the suffering of the central government should be awakened by the suffering of the people of this union territory and concerted efforts should be made to fulfill their legitimate aspirations as soon as possible.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged that only meetings have been held on the demands related to the sixth schedule of the Constitution, no concrete decision was taken.
Ramesh posted on ‘X’, ‘Six years ago when Ladakh was made a union territory, the people there had great expectations. But today the situation is completely different -people are in a state of deep disappointment and disillusionment. He claimed that the people of Ladakh have seen that their land and employment rights are in serious threat and the local administration and elected bodies are completely controlled by the Lieutenant Governor and the bureaucracy.
The Congress leader alleged, “Under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, there have been only meetings on their appropriate demands of security and elected legislatures, no concrete decision was taken.”
Ramesh also claimed that China’s unilateral violation of status quo on the Line of Actual Control and a clean chit given by the Prime Minister to China on June 19, 2020 has created a huge uncertainty.
He said, ‘Ladakh is very important for India from cultural, economic, ecological and strategic point of view. The people of Ladakh have always been a proud Indian at their origin. The conscience of the Government of India should be awakened by their pain and anguish. There should be concrete and real efforts not only for more interactions, but also to fulfill their legitimate aspirations as soon as possible.
