Chitradurga, March 31 (IANS). Senior BJP leader and opposition leader R. Ashok on Tuesday alleged that the Karnataka government is fully prepared to impose tax after the by-elections.

He said that if voters teach the ruling party in the state a lesson, it may hesitate in increasing taxes. He gave this statement while talking to the media in Chitradurga on Tuesday.

Responding to allegations made by Congress over price rise under the BJP-led Central government, Opposition leader R Ashok said the Center has reduced diesel prices and ghee prices have also come down.

Opposition leader R. Ashok alleged that the central government was reducing the prices. Whereas Karnataka government is increasing it. “The state government is ready to impose all kinds of taxes on the public as soon as the by-elections are over,” he claimed.

He further alleged that the state government imposes additional taxes on petrol, diesel and other commodities. They will continue this trend and harass people. If voters teach them a lesson in the by-elections, they may hesitate to impose taxes later.

The leader of opposition in Karnataka also said that he is releasing the BJP manifesto for Davangere constituency. He alleged that the government in Karnataka led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is indulging in misgovernance and corruption and has been accused of 60 per cent commission. “There is no talk of development,” he said.

Criticizing the Chief Minister, R. Ashok said the government has taken a loan of Rs 13 lakh crore this year alone and more than Rs 4 lakh crore during its tenure. Also said that every person in Karnataka is burdened with a debt of Rs 80,000.

Leader of opposition in Karnataka R. Ashok alleged that Rs 5,000 crore has not been released under the Griha Lakshmi scheme and Rs 750 crore is pending under the Anna Bhagya scheme. He also alleged that contractors have not been paid and said these issues will impact the election results.

He expressed confidence that BJP will come to power in the 2028 assembly elections. The public will try to overthrow this government and its effect will be visible in the results of the by-elections. They will vote for BJP and development.

Commenting on the IPL ticket controversy, Ashok said that it is better for MLAs to buy tickets rather than asking for free tickets. “I have said that tickets should not be given for free. Instead they should be made available to the cricket clubs of the respective constituencies,” he said.
