Guwahati, January 17 (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi, accusing the party of appeasing a particular community for narrow political gains and compromising the interests and identity of Assam.
Addressing the public through Facebook Live, Sarma alleged that such political conduct was being done at the cost of the state’s welfare and cultural identity. He claimed that details related to an Assam MP allegedly having secret links with Pakistan and displaying special affection towards a particular community would be made public before the end of the month.
Although the Chief Minister did not directly name Gogoi in this context, the BJP has repeatedly accused the Congress MP from Jorhat of having links with the neighboring country.
He said that Congress has surrendered before a particular community. If it were a matter of social harmony, the situation would have been different. But all this is being done by compromising the interests of our motherland and the identity of our people.
He warned that what he called special affection towards a particular community and alleged secret contacts with Pakistan poses a serious threat to Assam. He said that our caste is in danger. We are trying to protect it, but vested interests are trying to weaken us. Only unity will bring victory in this battle of identity.
