Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed concern over the devastation caused by Cyclone Montha in Andhra Pradesh and urged the state and the Center to take immediate action.
“The devastation caused by Cyclone Montha in Andhra Pradesh has caused immense hardship in many districts,” Gandhi said in a post on ‘X’. My thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.” He said, ”It is very sad to see that our farmers, who worked tirelessly for months, lost their entire crops overnight.” He said.
Congress leader Gandhi said the party is present on the ground in Andhra Pradesh, listening to people and assessing the damage.
“We urge both state and central governments to act immediately – the scale of the devastation demands immediate and compassionate action,” Gandhi said in the post.
Cyclone Montha has affected over 1.38 lakh hectares of agricultural produce and caused a loss of Rs 829 crore, affecting 1.74 lakh farmers.
The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday submitted a report to the Centre, in which preliminary assessment estimates the loss due to Cyclone Montha at Rs 5,244 crore.
