Tarn Taran, 16 November (IANS). Shiromani Akali Dal has demanded from the Election Commission to conduct an impartial investigation into the FIR lodged against its leaders and workers after the by-election on the Tarn Taran assembly seat of Punjab.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema wrote on social media platform If strict action is not taken against the state government and the guilty officials, public confidence in the Election Commission will be completely eroded, which will set a dangerous precedent for future elections.
He said that by carrying out such unprecedented and illegal actions, the government wants to scare the public. The purpose of this vendetta politics is to punish those leaders who refused to bow to the pressure of the Bhagwant Mann government.
The post said that despite a written complaint by SAD, no action was taken against the police officers who suspiciously followed our candidate’s daughter Kanchan Preet Kaur in a car with a fake number plate. Instead, those who exposed this incident after the election results were implicated in false cases and arrested. This is a direct challenge to the Election Commission.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) appeals to the Election Commission to get the entire matter investigated by an independent election observer. Let us inform you that SAD had alleged that the police was stopping Akali leaders and workers from campaigning in the by-elections and filing false cases against them. SAD had also accused the police of working under pressure from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. SAD had also said that notices are being issued to stop our leaders from campaigning.
