Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Dhananjay Munde and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Ambadas Danve demanded an independent investigation into the alleged suicide of a 28-year-old female doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara district.
A female doctor working in a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself. Police said on Friday that the female doctor has left a ‘suicide note’ on her palm, in which she has accused a policeman of rape and mental harassment.
A police officer said that the 28-year-old female doctor, hailing from Beed district, worked in a government hospital in Phaltan tehsil. He told that the body of the female doctor was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan late on Thursday night.
Police said that in the ‘suicide note’ the woman doctor has written that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane raped her several times, while Prashant Bankar, a software engineer by profession, mentally tortured her.
Police said a case of rape and abetment of suicide has been registered against Badane and Banker.
Munde, a former state minister, said if the woman’s senior officers ignored her complaints – as alleged – just because she had a particular surname or was a resident of Beed district, then it is a serious matter.
The NCP leader from Beed wrote on ‘X’, “There should be a SIT investigation into the entire matter and the case should be tried in a fast track court.”
Former leader of opposition in the Legislative Council, Danve also mentioned the Marathwada origin of the woman. He said, “The suicide of this daughter of Marathwada, who had struggled since birth and moved ahead in life, shows that the protectors have become the predators.” He said that an independent investigation committee should be formed consisting of officials from outside Satara district.
