Kolkata, June 29 (IANS). An FIR was lodged at the Hare Street police station on Monday against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Kunal Ghosh, Dola Sen and Baiswanar Chattopadhyay for disrupting traffic.
According to the police, on Sunday, these TMC leaders had come to Esplanade in the central area of Kolkata to inspect the road in front of Victoria House, so that preparations could be made to set the stage for the party’s Martyrs’ Day program on July 21.
During this time, due to crowd and activities on the road, traffic was disrupted during peak hours and common people had to face a lot of trouble. For this reason, a case has been registered against the three leaders.
The FIR states that on June 28, from 2:50 pm to 4:00 pm, these leaders blocked the road, affecting traffic. Hare Street Police has issued notices to the three leaders and sought their answers.
Meanwhile, CM Suvendu Adhikari took a jibe at TMC over this incident. He said that there are differences within the party regarding the July 21 programme.
He said that earlier TMC had sought permission for the rally on Rani Rashmoni Road, but later permission was given for the roadside gathering. Now again permission is being sought for a new program.
He sarcastically said that one section of the party says that they are the real TMC, while the other section is calling itself different.
At the same time, internal dispute has also come to light in the party regarding TMC’s Martyr’s Day program of 21st July. While the Mamata Banerjee-led faction is seeking permission from the Kolkata Police to hold the program at Esplanade, a separate faction of the party is also seeking permission for the same program.
This event is held every year on 21 July in Kolkata, in which former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addresses a public meeting in memory of the 13 people killed in the Youth Congress protest in 1993.
