Ahmedabad, May 15 (IANS). Preparations for Census 2027 have been intensified in Gujarat. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has deployed 12,000 enumerators and 2,000 observers for the upcoming houselisting and housing census exercise.
According to the city census department of AMC, the first phase of Census-2027 will be conducted from June 1 to 30. This phase involves household listing and housing census.
Officials said training of around 7,500 personnel has already been completed and the remaining training will be completed by May 21. Training sessions are being conducted in schools and community halls of all 48 wards of Ahmedabad. All the appointed employees have been allotted to wards under the Municipal Corporation authorities.
The AMC said enumerators have been drawn from central and state government departments, semi-government offices and educational institutions. The deployment has been completed as per the official appointment orders issued by the concerned departments.
The central government will also allow citizens to participate through the self-counting facility. This online portal will be open to residents of Gujarat from May 17 to 31, allowing families to go door-to-door and submit details related to housing and amenities before the counting begins.
Officials said Census 2027 will be conducted using digital tools, including mobile applications for enumerators and an online self-enumeration system for citizens. At the door-to-door listing stage, information related to housing conditions, household amenities and assets will be collected.
The AMC has also warned that disciplinary action may be taken under Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948 against employees who are absent from training or do not perform census duties.
Officials have urged citizens to fully cooperate with enumerators during this process and provide accurate and complete information at both the stages of self-enumeration and door-to-door data collection.
