Gandhinagar, June 22 (IANS). Around 28.58 lakh children will be enrolled in schools across the state during the three-day ‘Shala Praveshotsav (School Enrollment Festival) and Kanya Kelavani’ campaign starting from June 23 in Gujarat. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Vadnagar’s B.N. Will start this statewide campaign from high school.
The school where Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his education has been chosen as the launch venue for the 24th edition of the campaign, which he launched in 2003 during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister to encourage school enrollment and improve participation in education.
In Vadnagar, Patel is scheduled to facilitate the admission of 389 students from Kindergarten to Class 11, including two children, at an Anganwadi centre.
According to the state government, the enrollment drive will be conducted from June 23 to 25 and will cover 38,400 schools across Gujarat.
By June 1, children above five years and below six years will be admitted to Kindergarten, while on the same date, children above six years and below seven years will be enrolled in Class 1.
The program will also facilitate students’ transfer to higher levels of schooling. Children who have passed class 8 will be given admission in class 9, while children who have passed class 10 will be given admission in class 11.
The campaign, which the government describes as an ongoing educational outreach initiative, marks its 24th year.
During the three-day programme, senior government representatives including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and officers from IAS, IPS and IFS services will visit schools across the state to participate in enrollment activities.
Around 465 dignitaries and officials are expected to participate in the event by visiting schools and assisting in admissions.
During his visit, the officials will also review the academic performance, physical infrastructure and other achievements of the schools in consultation with the School Management Committees (SMCs).
The state government said the enrollment festival will be organized with the participation of school management committees, parents and residents, with community participation expected to play a central role in encouraging children to enter and continue formal education.
