A Delhi court on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a police plea seeking seven-day custody of Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib in connection with the AI-Summit protests case.
Delhi Police told the court that Chib “conspired” and provided logistics to the protesters. The police further said that it is necessary to keep him in long custody to confront him with other accused and to investigate the alleged larger conspiracy. Police described the case as a case of unlawful assembly and criminal conspiracy and said that Chib had given instructions to the other accused, while many of the accused are currently in Jammu, Amethi and Himachal Pradesh.
Chib’s lawyer argued that the detention should not be meaningless, as he has cooperated with the investigation, has joined the investigation twice and has denied having knowledge of the printing of the T-shirts used in the protests. The defense further said that further interrogation had yielded no information and that the police could have obtained information even without detaining Chib.
Delhi Police says that the case is not limited to T-shirts only, but large-scale printing and coordination has been exposed as part of a conspiracy. The court is expected to announce its verdict at 12:30 pm.
According to the police, Chib has been booked under several sections of the BNS, including section 61(2) for criminal conspiracy, section 121(1) for voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, section 132 for assault or criminal force to prevent a public servant from discharging his duty, section 195(1) for assault or obstruction by a public servant in the discharge of public functions. Section 221 for obstructing a public servant, Section 223(A) for disobedience to orders of a public servant, Section 190 for offense by members of an unlawful assembly, Section 197 for allegations prejudicial to national integration, and Section 3(5) for common intention.
After the arrest, the police brought him to Patiala House Court. Chib was arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the protests at the Al Impact Summit 2026 held at the Bharat Mandapam in the capital.
Earlier on Friday, a group of members of the Indian Youth Congress protested at the Bharat Mandapam by taking off their clothes with the slogan “Compromised Prime Minister”.
The Indian Youth Congress raised its voice at the summit and protested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, according to a party statement, has “compromised the identity of the country”.
