Thiruvananthapuram, May 5 (IANS). Political turmoil has intensified in Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram. The Congress party can appoint observers at any time, who will organize a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) to select the Chief Minister. At present, three big names are at the forefront in the race for the post of Chief Minister, in which KC Venugopal, V.D. The names of Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala are included.
Senior party observers, who were entrusted with the responsibility of Kerala elections, will reach Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. It is believed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) may also seek the opinion of allies before government formation, so that balance can be maintained in the alliance. Meanwhile, KC Venugopal is in his constituency Alappuzha on Tuesday and is likely to leave for Delhi by evening.
After the election results declared on May 4, Congress leaders strongly welcomed the clear lead of the United Democratic Alliance (UDF). The party described it as a ‘victory for UDF unity’ and claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party has lost its relevance in South India.
Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi told IANS, “This victory is very big for us. Congratulations to Congress workers across the country and special thanks to the people of Kerala, who not only gave the majority to the UDF but made it win with an overwhelming majority.”
He called it the success of the strategy of Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. He also appreciated the efforts of KC Venugopal to unite the people.
Expressing happiness over the possibility of Congress becoming the Chief Minister of another state, Pratapgarhi said, “We are proud that the number of our Chief Ministers will increase. UDF is going to form the government in Kerala with a clear majority.” He also told that he was working as a senior supervisor in the state, hence he was very happy with this result.
Congress leader and president of Telangana Fishermen’s Cooperative Federation Limited Metu Sai Kumar termed it a victory for Congress workers. Accusing BJP of misusing constitutional arrangements, he said that despite this, BJP’s influence is continuously decreasing in South India.
