Chennai, May 14 (IANS). Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said Tamil Nadu voted for ‘change and aspirations’ in the recently concluded assembly elections, and expressed hope that the new government will meet the expectations of the people.
In a message posted on social media after meeting Tamil Nadu Congress MLAs, Kharge said the party leadership discussed various measures aimed at strengthening the Congress organization in the state and expanding its political reach in the coming months.
Kharge said that this time, Tamil Nadu stands in favor of change and aspirations. He described the election results as a reflection of the public’s desire for a new political direction and governance model in the state.
The Congress president said Tamil Nadu Congress Legislature Party MLAs met him and held detailed discussions on the future path of the party in the state.
Kharge congratulated the newly formed government in Tamil Nadu and expressed hope that it would work towards fulfilling the promises and aspirations of the people.
He further said that I wish success to the new government in realizing the dreams of the people.
These comments assume significance in the context of the dramatic political changes taking place in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 assembly elections, which have brought about a sea change in the political landscape of the state.
Congress leaders believe that the decision has opened up new political opportunities and provided an opportunity to strengthen the party’s organizational structure in Tamil Nadu.
Party sources said the meeting focused on reviewing the assembly election performance, analyzing regional political trends and preparing a roadmap for future electoral contests, including the local body elections and the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The discussion also focused on improving coordination at the booth level, increasing participation of youth and women in the organization and strengthening district level leadership structures.
