Jaipur, May 14 (IANS). Rajasthan Health and Medical Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar said the maternal health incident in Kota is being investigated on three major fronts: checking of medicines given to patients, checking of possible contamination in operation theaters and medical equipment, and thorough checking of treatment protocols and patient monitoring systems.
He said that laboratory reports regarding possible contamination in medicines, equipment and related materials are expected within 2 to 3 weeks.
Khinvsar was in Kota on Thursday, where he said the state government is taking the death and deteriorating health of pregnant women in Kota extremely seriously and has ordered a comprehensive investigation from all possible angles to find out the real cause of the incident.
He announced that a team from the Delhi-based All India Institute of Ayurvedic Sciences (AIIMS) would visit Kota on Saturday for a detailed and impartial investigation into the matter.
Addressing the media after inspecting health facilities at New Medical College Hospital and JK Lone Hospital in Kota, the minister described the incident as extremely sad and unfortunate and stressed that the government is ensuring prompt, sensitive and transparent investigation.
He said that the real reasons for this incident will be known only after receiving the final report. Strict action will be taken as per the findings of the report. He further said that negligence in health services will not be tolerated at any level.
Khinvsar said the investigation was being conducted on three major fronts: investigation of medicines given to patients; Inspection of operation theaters and medical equipment for possible contamination; and examining treatment protocols and patient monitoring systems.
Laboratory reports regarding possible contamination in medicines, equipment and related materials are expected within two to three weeks.
He further said that considering the seriousness of the case, the doctors and nursing staff involved in the treatment and monitoring have been prima facie suspended.
However, he clarified that no innocent person will be punished and strict action will be taken only against those found guilty after investigation.
