New Delhi, March 21 (IANS). Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, Chief of the Northern Command of the Indian Army, paid a courtesy call on Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh. During this meeting, views were exchanged between the two on various important issues, which the Union Minister described as a ‘rich and useful discussion’.
Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh gave this information through social media platform ‘X’. “Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Udhampur paid a courtesy visit. A fruitful exchange of views took place,” he wrote in the post on ‘X’.
Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command of the Indian Army based at Udhampur on 1 May 2025. He replaced Lieutenant General MV Suchendra Kumar on this post. Prateek Sharma is an experienced Infantry officer with nearly 30 years of experience, who has held many important responsibilities in the Army.
Before this, he has also served on important positions like Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) and Director General of Military Operations (DGMO). Apart from this, he has also served as the Director General of Information Warfare.
Lieutenant General Sharma has wide experience of working in various operational areas. He has played a role in important operations like Operation Pawan, Operation Meghdoot in Siachen, Operation Rakshak and Operation Parakram, which reflects his military capability and experience.
He also has a strong background in the field of education. He is an alumnus of the National Defense Academy (NDA), Pune, the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun and the Defense Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington.
Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma was commissioned into the Madras Regiment in December 1987. In his long and successful military career, he has served the country by holding many important responsibilities.
