Bhopal/Ujjain, July 9 (IANS). The Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday announced that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will lay the foundation stone of the Rs 5,017 crore Ujjain-Jawara greenfield four-lane highway project on Friday.
The 98.73 km long highway will be constructed by Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) and is expected to be completed in two years. This highway will pass through Ujjain South, Ghatia, Nagda-Khachrod, Alot, and Javra assembly constituencies.
According to the state government, the project will improve road connectivity in the Malwa region and Ujjain will get direct connectivity to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The government said the highway will benefit about 35 lakh people and improve connectivity for 62 villages.
The government said that this project will also be helpful for pilgrims and tourists visiting Ujjain during Simhastha-2028. Commuters coming from Rajasthan, Gujarat and other parts of the country are expected to easily reach the city through the new highway.
The project includes three railway overbridges, nine major bridges, 26 medium bridges and 417 culverts. To facilitate local traffic, service roads will also be constructed on both sides from Delhi-Mumbai Expressway interchange to Mhow-Neemuch four-lane highway on Javra Bypass.
According to the government, the new highway will strengthen road connectivity between Ujjain, Indore, Bhopal and other parts of the Malwa region. This is expected to reduce travel time and improve the movement of passenger and commercial vehicles.
The state government said better road connectivity will help farmers transport agricultural produce to markets faster. The government also said that the improved infrastructure will also boost industrial development, trade and logistics activities in the region.
The project is expected to reduce fuel consumption, improve road safety and reduce transportation costs. The government described the Ujjain-Jawara Greenfield Highway as one of the major infrastructure projects of the state, which will contribute to the economic and social development of the Malwa region after its completion.
This development project is part of the state’s efforts to strengthen road infrastructure and improve connectivity between major religious, agricultural and commercial centers in Madhya Pradesh.
