Kolkata, 6 November (IANS). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday clarified the ongoing controversy regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) campaign. The Chief Minister clarified that he had not filled the form. The opposition is spreading false news.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted on social media that the in-charge Booth Level Officer (BLO) had come to her locality and asked the number of voters in the residence office and given forms. But, she herself has not filled any form and will not fill it until every person in the state fills the form.
Mamata termed some reports as ‘completely false, misleading and deliberate propaganda’ claiming that she went out and collected forms hand-to-hand from the BLO.
Mamta wrote in the post, “On Wednesday, BLOs came to the locality for their specific work. They came to my residence office, found out how many voters there were, and gave forms. Until every person in Bengal fills the form, I have not and will not fill any form myself. Various media and newspapers wrote that ‘I came out and took the enumeration form by hand from the BLO.’ This news is completely false.” He termed it a conspiracy by opposition parties.
This statement comes amid the Election Commission’s SIR starting from November 4, which aims to purify the voter list. BJP and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari are continuously alleging that Trinamool Congress (TMC) is opposing the operation to save infiltrators.
Mamata had earlier said that poor Bengalis, tribals and minorities were being affected by SIR. He even called BLO an ‘agent of BJP’.
Let us inform you that the Election Commission of India has announced the second phase of SIR, which also includes Mamata Banerjee led TMC (Trinamool Congress) ruled West Bengal.
