Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the appointment of Nitin Nabin as the national president of BJP, saying that Nitin Nabin is the boss in party matters, and he himself is only a party worker.
Addressing a gathering at the BJP headquarters in the national capital, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Nabin on being elected president of the world’s largest political party and said his responsibility is much more than managing the BJP.
The Prime Minister said, “As far as the party is concerned, Nitin Nabin is the boss and I am a party worker. Now honorable Nitin Nabin ji is the president of all of us and his responsibility is not only to manage the BJP but also to ensure coordination among all the NDA allies.”
Highlighting the importance of the coming decades, Prime Minister Modi said, “The next 25 years are very important. This is the time when a developed India has to be built, and it is bound to happen.”
He expressed confidence that Nitin Nabin will carry forward the legacy of the party and said, “At the beginning of this important phase, our Nitin Nabin ji will take forward the legacy of the BJP.”
Referring to the generational change within the party, the Prime Minister said, “In the language of today’s youth, Nitin ji himself is a Millennial in a way.”
He further said that 45-year-old Nabin belongs to a generation that has seen major economic, social and technological changes. “They are from the generation that received information from radio as children and are now active users of AI,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi further said, “Nitin ji has both youthful energy and extensive experience of organizational work. This will be very beneficial for every worker of our party.”
The Prime Minister also talked about the BJP’s electoral performance, saying, “Many times we have seen that after a long time it becomes difficult for a government to remain in power. But the BJP has broken this trend.”
Citing recent election victories in many states, he said, “Be it Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh or Bihar, in many states the BJP has won elections with a bigger majority than before. The record of BJP’s victory in elections is unprecedented.”
He further said, “BJP is a tradition. BJP is a family. Here it is not just membership, but a deep relationship. BJP is a tradition that is not run by post, but by process. Here holding office is a compromise and working is a lifelong responsibility. Here the president changes, but the ideals do not change. The leadership changes, but the direction does not change.”
Reflecting on the ideological inspirations, Prime Minister Modi said, “In the last one and a half year, we have celebrated grand occasions like the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the 100th birth anniversary of Atal ji and 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. These are the inspirations that further strengthen our resolve to live for the nation.”
Referring to the organizational journey of BJP, PM Modi said, “Under the leadership of Atal ji, Advani ji and Murli Manohar Joshi ji, BJP has traveled from zero to the peak.”
He credited all the party presidents for the organization’s expansion and said, “I heartily congratulate all the former BJP presidents.”
Expressing pride in being a BJP worker, the Prime Minister said, “People may think that Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of the country, became the Prime Minister for the third time, became the Chief Minister at the young age of 50. All this is fine in itself, but the most important thing in my life is that I am a BJP worker. This is the biggest pride for me.”
This morning Nitin Nabin formally took charge as the National President of BJP.
The event was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, outgoing BJP national president JP Nadda, several other BJP leaders and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states.
Senior Indian politician Naveen has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly five times and has also been a former minister in the Government of Bihar. He is widely known for his consistent organizational skills and administrative experience.
The process of election for the post of BJP national president has started as 30 out of 36 state presidents have been elected, crossing the required 50 per cent threshold. The election schedule was announced on January 16, 2026, along with the voter list. As per the schedule, the nomination process concluded yesterday, January 19, 2026, between 2 pm to 4 pm.
A total of 37 sets of nomination papers were received in favor of Nitin Nabin for the post of national president, which included proposals from top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh.
