Mumbai, January 24 (IANS). Hasin Mastan, daughter of underworld don Haji Mastan, spoke to IANS on Saturday. During this, he praised the Government of India for abolishing triple talaq by making a law. He described it as beneficial for the Muslim society.
Describing the progress of the case against her ex-husband, Haseen Mastan said, “I have filed a case against my ex-husband. I did not have money to fight the case in the court. In the meantime, I met lawyer Ashish Verma ji. He has taken up my case. The writ petition was filed within a week. I have full faith in the judiciary that I will get justice soon.”
Pleading for justice, he said, “Now I have full hope. As I said, I have great faith in the judiciary and the legal system. Earlier I did not have the right lawyers to fight my case, but now Ashish and other lawyers have come like angels. Now the government is also involved in this and the Prime Minister is also aware of it.”
Talking about the atrocities against her, Mastan said, “Earlier, I was forced into a child marriage and there was an attempt to rape me. How can one marry a 12-year-old girl? The person I married beat me, killed my child and harassed me so much mentally that I even tried to commit suicide. He divorced me without giving me anything and my identity was hidden. When my mother was alive, she was asked to speak in the court on my behalf. I was not allowed to come in. I was harassed a lot.”
Describing the abolition of triple talaq as beneficial for the Muslim society, he said, “It has been very beneficial. See, issues like ‘triple talaq’ were being misused in Islam. People were giving divorce in a wrong way, which was not in accordance with the true Islamic teachings. When PM Modi saw its misuse, he took notice of it. The matter was handled very carefully and it was given full attention. That is why women got relief and now people understand that divorce in this way Cannot be misused.”
Praising the government, she said, “If there was anti-Muslim sentiment, I would not be here today. I would not have been able to reach the PMO office and Bihar MP Pradeep Kumar Singh would not have helped me.”
He said, “Humanity comes first, then religion. What difference does it make if you are a Hindu, I am a Muslim? Religion comes later. Humanity comes first. We are all human beings. If someone gets hurt or someone is in pain, we should not say ‘they are Hindu’ or ‘they are Muslim.’ He is a human being and we should respond as humanity itself.”
