Amravati, April 7 (IANS). Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was accused of being unable to give a political answer to his “Mavigun” proposal and hence resorting to propaganda and disinformation.
The YSR Congress Party chief took to social media to launch a scathing attack on the managing director of a Telugu media house, alleging that derogatory language was used against women on a TV channel.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that such objectionable language and dragging women into political debate is neither criticism nor in accordance with democratic decorum, rather it is an insult to women and raises serious questions on the standards of journalism.
He said, “We strongly condemn these comments. This is a deliberate attempt to insult women and divert public debate. The real issue is that in failing to respond politically to the ‘Mavigun’ proposal, Naidu and his associated media outlets are resorting to propaganda, misinformation and abuses.”
It is noteworthy that Jagan Mohan Reddy had recently proposed to make ‘Mavigun’ (Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur) corridor the state capital, which has emerged as an alternative to Amaravati.
In the context of this proposal, objectionable remarks were allegedly made on a news channel, in protest against which YSR Congress Party leaders demonstrated outside the ABN Andhra Jyothi office in Hyderabad on Tuesday and demanded action against the person concerned and an unconditional apology.
Jagan said his workers protested peacefully and did not resort to violence, which clearly shows their commitment to democratic values.
He alleged that instead of condemning this controversial statement, leaders like Nara Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan supported it, which shows their mentality.
Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded immediate action against the media chief concerned, saying that such statements are not only unacceptable but also give a wrong message to the society.
