Will re-establish governance like that of Jayalalithaa. He strongly criticized the government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin and said that the people of the state now want change.
Addressing a press conference held in Tiruchirappalli, Piyush Goyal (who is also the election in-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu) said that the people of the state are looking for better and transparent governance.
He alleged that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government is surrounded by corruption and the public is now disappointed with it. Piyush Goyal said that the Stalin government has failed to resolve many important administrative issues and is promoting divisive politics in the state.
Piyush Goyal also targeted Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. He claimed that Udhayanidhi’s leadership was not being widely accepted even within the DMK itself.
The Union Minister said, “The people of Tamil Nadu want the NDA to be formed at the national level under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and at the state level under the leadership of Edappadi K. Palaniswami.”
He expressed confidence that the NDA will form the government in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Palaniswami in the coming assembly elections.
Piyush Goyal also claimed that the people of the state are angry with the kind of ‘anti-Tamil mentality’ visible within the current administration. According to him, voters are now looking towards NDA as an alternative capable of providing stable and development-oriented governance.
Referring to the policies of the Central Government, the Union Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has deep respect for Tamil culture and heritage. He said that the Prime Minister wants to include Tamil Nadu among the best performing states of the country through development.
Piyush Goyal also said that if the NDA comes to power in the state, strict steps will be taken to eliminate irregularities in the TASMAC liquor retail system, illegal sand mining and law and order related problems.
Describing former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as ‘Amma’, he said the NDA alliance will re-implement the governance model associated with her tenure.
He said, “When voters cast their votes, all the dreams of DMK will be shattered. We are confident that the people will support NDA in the coming assembly elections.”
