Tel Aviv/Washington, July 12 (IANS). The world is shocked by the sudden death of US Senator Lindsey Graham. People who know him closely are also very disappointed. PM Benjamin Netanyahu expressed grief over the demise of Graham, who always raised his voice in favor of Israel.
Issued a statement on social media platform X along with a photo of him. They wrote, “We understood that the security of Israel and America were inextricably linked. He dedicated his life to defending America, strengthening our alliance, and supporting the free world.”
He added, “Israel has lost one of its greatest friends. America has lost a great patriot. I have lost a dear friend.”
Earlier, US President Donald Trump on Truth Social described Graham as a great and dedicated patriot. Said, “He will always be missed.”
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina died on Saturday after a sudden illness. He was considered one of the leading supporters of Israel in the United States and was an influential voice on foreign policy as well as national security issues.
His official X account announced his tragic death on Sunday morning.
“Senator Graham died Saturday evening after a brief illness. The family asks for the public’s prayers and respect for their privacy during this extremely difficult time,” his office said.
Graham was elected to the US Senate in 2002. Earlier, he was elected to the US House of Representatives from South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District in 1994.
There was a time when Graham was a staunch critic of President Donald Trump but later became his staunch supporter.
Israel also called Graham a staunch friend because he was unhappy with Pakistan’s mediation during the recent US-Israel-Iran conflict. He had said on many forums that he did not trust Pakistan. This was almost the same thing that Israel has been expressing.
