Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra lodged a formal complaint with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday. She alleged that when she was on her way to Delhi to attend the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, some people harassed her on an IndiGo flight. In a post on social media platform ‘X’, the TMC MP said that the incident took place on IndiGo flight 6E 719. He claimed that as soon as the flight landed – and even before the doors opened – several people saw him, started shouting slogans and filmed the incident.

‘Thief, thief! TMC is a thief! Aunt is a thief! Nephew is a thief!’
In the video shared by the TMC MP, many people were seen chanting “Thief, thief! TMC is a thief! Pishi thief! Bhaipo thief!” (Aunt is a thief! Nephew is a thief!) can be seen raising slogans. These slogans were actually for TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. She termed the incident as harassment and said it posed a threat to her safety while traveling on the plane.
Mahua Moitra called sloganeering as harassment
In a post on ‘X’, Mahua Moitra asserted, “This is not an expression of civil outrage; this is harassment and a violation of my safety on the plane. Under no circumstances should these goons be allowed to do this kind of harassment inside the plane.” He further said, “This is the culture of BJP. What is there to be surprised in this?” Moitra said that she had initially decided to ignore the matter and continued attending parliamentary meetings. However, after seeing the video going viral on social media, he decided to speak publicly about the incident.
Complaint filed regarding incident of ‘thief’ sloganeering
In his complaint submitted to the DGCA, the TMC MP alleged that “mischievous elements” were raising slogans continuously and loudly with the specific intention of intimidating and humiliating him because of his political affiliations.
