Following the intervention of the central government, major quick commerce companies like Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato and Swiggy have removed the promise of ’10 minutes delivery’ from their branding, advertisements and apps. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of gig workers.
In New Delhi, IANS spoke to some gig workers who are running their families by working in various commerce companies. Rahul, who works 9 hours a day, was always worried about the possibility of him incurring a loss if the order was not delivered within 10 minutes. Because, when he returns home after earning Rs 600 per day, the stove burns in his house.
He said that if we are not forced to deliver orders within 10 minutes, we will get a lot of relief. Many times we get stuck in traffic so it is not possible to make the delivery within 10 minutes. Many times we have to violate traffic rules, due to which the risk of losing our lives also increases. Sometimes accidents also happen. The company pays very little according to our hard work. We just want to increase the payment a little.
Sunny, who has been working for 9 months, said that there were a lot of problems. Since the target was 10 minutes, the risk to life was high; Had to ride the bike very fast. The abolition of this system will provide great relief. We earn Rs 700 a day, but customers scold us if we are late. This decision is very right.
Another gig worker said the decision was a good decision as it took the pressure off for 10 minutes. The company sometimes cooperates, but the customers do not. There was always a fear of an accident. Earlier there was a lot of pressure, many times the company has also imposed fine for delay. Delivery time should be 20 minutes instead of 10 minutes.
