An instruction was issued by the government to pre-install the Sanchar Sathi app in every phone. The opposition attacked the government regarding this. After this, Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia clarified that whoever wants can remove the app. Many opposition leaders have reacted on this issue.
CPI(M) MP John Brittas says the country is joining the surveillance nations. The government wants to install an application already in the phone. After this, when the protest started, the minister made it clear that if anyone wants to remove this app, they can remove it. He said that downloading and deleting apps from the phone should depend on the mobile operator.
Congress MP Saptagiri Shankar Ulaka says that it has been said in the notification that this app should be visible, no one can remove it. What does it mean? Jyotiraditya Scindia is saying something else while something else is written in the notification. He raised the question that what is the need of this app? They want to keep an eye on everyone. We doubt the intentions of this government, hence we have objection.
The Congress MP said that instead of forcibly installing this app on phones, awareness should be spread that we have an app which can provide cyber security. By using force it is understood that its purpose is something else.
Congress MP Renuka Chaudhary attacked the government over Sanchar Sathi and said that even though the minister has given clarification on this, it needs to be read what he wants to say. When people can delete it on their own, why is it necessary? The work that is being done by educated people or people living in villages, do they know that it can also be deleted? He said that this is a way of spying.
Congress MP Vivek Tankha said that the government took this decision without any information. If you are taking a decision related to someone’s personal information, then at least people should be taken into confidence. Mobile has now become my home. No one should be allowed to tamper with it. He said that we will study whether the app is limited to cyber security or people’s personal information is being accessed.
Regarding Sanchar Sathi app, TMC MP Dola Sen says that we have been seeing the same thing for 14 years. At first they did not accept what Pegasus said. Later it came to light that he had applied for Pegasus. That too was interference in our personal things and after this we forcibly linked Aadhaar card with bank accounts and other things.
Attacking the government, he said that after all this they are saying that they are not validating Aadhaar cards at the time of SIR. They want to monitor the public and people through this.
National Conference MP Mohammad Ramzan told IANS that there is no need for this app. This is a matter related to people’s privacy. Through this, all their personal information can be obtained.
