Kaliabor, January 18 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has alleged that Congress created instability in Assam for its political gains and pushed the state into the fire of violence. He said that Congress had handed over the soil of Assam to infiltrators just to form governments and get some votes.
Prime Minister Modi performed the bhoomi pujan of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project in Assam on Sunday. He also flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains. Addressing the program on this occasion, PM Modi said that Congress created instability in Assam for its political gains and pushed Assam into the fire of violence.
He said that after independence, Assam faced big challenges, but instead of finding solutions to those problems, Congress baked political bread on them. He said that when trust was needed, Congress increased division. When there was a need for dialogue, Congress ignored it and closed the avenues of dialogue. When the need was to heal the wounds of its people and serve the people of Assam, the Congress remained busy hosting infiltrators at the doors of Assam.
PM Modi said that Congress does not consider the people of Assam as its own. Congress people like foreign infiltrators more, because they come here and become the staunch vote bank of Congress. Therefore, during the Congress rule, foreign infiltrators kept coming, occupying lakhs of bighas of land in Assam and the Congress government kept helping them.
He said that when we respect the art, culture and identity of Assam, there are some people who feel hurt. The people of Congress do not like the respect of Assam. Congress had opposed giving Bharat Ratna to Bhupen Hazarika ji. The Karnataka government minister of Congress had opposed the semiconductor unit in Assam.
Prime Minister Modi said that the biggest pain of the North East has always been distance. There was distance of hearts and distance of places. For decades, the people here continued to feel that the country’s development was taking place elsewhere and they were being left behind. Its impact was not only on the economy, but also on trust. BJP worked to change this sentiment.
He said that the double engine government has made the development of North East a priority. The work of connecting Assam through roadways, railways, airways and waterways started simultaneously, but Congress never cared about it. When the Congress government was at the Centre, Assam got a very small (about Rs 2000 crore) railway budget. Now the BJP government has increased it to about Rs 10 thousand crores annually.
