Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted citizens on the occasion of National Voters’ Day, emphasizing that voting is not only a constitutional privilege but also a solemn duty that empowers every citizen to raise their voice in shaping the future of India.
In a post shared on Twitter, the Prime Minister wrote, “National Voters Day is an occasion to further strengthen the faith in the democratic values of the country. He also appreciated the continuous efforts of the Election Commission of India to strengthen democratic processes across the country. #HappyNationalVotersDay.”
Prime Minister Modi’s post read, “This is a day to further deepen our faith in the democratic values of our nation. My heartiest congratulations to all associated with the Election Commission of India for their efforts to strengthen our democratic processes. Being a voter is not just a constitutional privilege, but an important duty that empowers every citizen to raise their voice in shaping the future of India. Let us honor the spirit of our democracy by continuously participating in the democratic processes, thereby laying the foundation of a developed India.” Can become stronger.”
Highlighting the importance of celebrating voter registration, the Prime Minister also wrote a letter to My Bharat volunteers, urging them to celebrate when someone around them registers as a voter for the first time.
In his letter, Prime Minister Modi described Indian democracy as the world’s largest democracy and the “mother of democracy”, which is rooted in centuries-old traditions of debate and dialogue. He reminded that India is completing 75 years since the beginning of its first general elections in 1951, which, according to him, reflects the inherent democratic spirit of the people.
The Prime Minister wrote, “Being a voter is the greatest privilege and responsibility in a democracy. Voting is a sacred constitutional right and a symbol of participation in the future of India.”
He described voters as the “destiny makers” of the country’s development journey.
The Prime Minister laid special emphasis on first-time voters and described their participation as an important moment in the electoral process. He urged families, residential societies, schools and colleges to celebrate young people attaining voting age and “make them feel truly special as they take on this new responsibility”.
Describing elections as a “celebration of democracy”, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the idea that citizens from diverse geographies, from the Himalayas to the island regions, participate enthusiastically so that their voices can be heard.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusive participation, the Prime Minister underlined the role of women power, especially young women, in strengthening democracy. He encouraged MY Bharat volunteers to spread awareness about voter registration and participation and said that youth have a strong spirit to bring about change.
The letter further read, “Let us resolve to make every possible effort towards strengthening our democracy and building a developed, inclusive and self-reliant India.”
National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year on 25 January in India, as a symbol of celebrating democracy and empowering every citizen to participate in the electoral process.
According to the official release, the day marks the establishment of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which was established on January 25, 1950 under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution.
According to the ECI, the theme of this year’s event is “My India, My Vote” and the tagline is “Citizens at the Center of Indian Democracy”. ECI said that President Draupadi Murmu will preside over the function as the chief guest.
