Clearing BJP’s stand on infiltration and welfare issues in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised that if voted to power, the process of granting citizenship to Matua and Namashudra refugee families would be expedited. Addressing a rally in Katwa in East Burdwan district, PM Modi said the BJP implemented the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) to grant citizenship to refugees, while the ruling Trinamool Congress is trying to create fear among these people. He stressed, “I want to assure the Matua and Namasudra refugee families that they are safe under the protection of the country’s Constitution.” He further said that the Modi government had implemented the CAA specifically to ensure that Matuas, Namasudras and all other refugees could obtain citizenship.

Infiltrators will have to leave West Bengal: PM

The Prime Minister announced, “If the BJP government is formed, the process of granting citizenship to all eligible applicants under CAA will be expedited.” The Matua community—which is spread across several districts of South Bengal—is considered an electorally influential demographic, and the issue of citizenship has long been a politically sensitive topic. Stepping up his attack on the issue of illegal infiltration, PM Modi asserted that if BJP comes to power, infiltrators will be forced to leave West Bengal. He said, “Now is the time for them to leave; the infiltrators should start packing their bags. Those who are helping these infiltrators will also not be spared.” Atmosphere of fear in Bengal – PM Modi

Taking aim at the Bengal government, PM Modi said that the 15-year rule of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has created an atmosphere of fear in the state. He stressed that this election is a fight to end the fear created by the Trinamool Congress. Calling for a West Bengal free from the fear of Trinamool and full of confidence from BJP, PM Modi remarked that such a change would be the first step towards building a developed West Bengal.

What did they say about potato farmers

The Prime Minister said, “BJP will release a white paper on the corruption of the ‘ruthless government’ of Trinamool Congress.” “The policies of this ‘ruthless’ Trinamool administration have ruined the future of potato farmers of West Bengal.” He further said, “We will take strict action against those involved in political violence in West Bengal.” Appealing to women voters to unite in support of the BJP, he said, “Wherever women have voted in large numbers, the BJP has got a resounding victory.”

Speaking on the issue of welfare schemes, the Prime Minister announced, “If the BJP government is formed in West Bengal, the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ health scheme will be implemented in the very first cabinet meeting.” It is worth noting that elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are to be held in two phases—on April 23 and April 29. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.
