Washington, March 16 (IANS). US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, but that she will continue working at the White House during treatment.
Trump shared this information on social media and praised Wiles, calling him a trusted advisor and expressed hope for his speedy recovery.
Trump said, “Susie Wiles is a wonderful chief of staff, a wonderful person, and one of the strongest people I know. But unfortunately she has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. She has decided to rise to this challenge, and has begun treatment immediately.”
The president said Wiles has already begun preparations for treatment and has the support of a strong medical team.
Trump said, “Her medical team is excellent. She will spend almost the entire time in the White House during her treatment.”
Trump also described Wiles as one of his most trusted advisors in the administration.
“Her strength and her commitment, the love she does for her job, even while undergoing treatment, tells you everything about her,” Trump said.
Trump said Wiles is an important member of the administration and plays a central role on his team.
“Susie, as one of my closest and most important advisors, is strong and deeply committed to serving the American public,” he said.
Trump said that he and First Lady Melania Trump are with Wiles during his treatment.
“Melania and I are with her every step of the way, and we look forward to working with Susie to do many big and wonderful things for the benefit of our country,” he said.
White House officials also showed solidarity in support of Wiles shortly after the announcement.
Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt praised Wiles’s leadership abilities and personal qualities.
He said, “Susie Wiles exemplifies what a strong leader is. She is one of the nicest people I have ever met.”
