Congress on Wednesday took a dig at the phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Diwali, saying that the Prime Minister hides things, while Trump exposes them. Trump called the Prime Minister on the occasion of Diwali and wished him.
“The Prime Minister has finally publicly acknowledged that President Trump had called him and that the two had a conversation,” Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on Twitter. But the Prime Minister only told that the US President wished him a happy Diwali. He sarcastically said that while Prime Minister Modi hides things, President Trump exposes them.
Ramesh said, “On his part, the US President has said that apart from the Diwali wishes, he also talked about India’s oil imports from Russia and he was assured that these imports will be stopped.” According to Ramesh, this is the fourth time in the last six days that the US President has announced India’s policy. He said, “Even before this, President Trump had announced to stop Operation Sindoor on the evening of May 10, even before Prime Minister Modi.”
During an event organized at the White House on the occasion of Diwali, Trump said that he has spoken to Prime Minister Modi and India will no longer buy more oil from Russia. Prime Minister Modi said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ on Wednesday, “Thank you, President Trump, for your call and wishes for Diwali.”
The Prime Minister said, “On this Festival of Lights, may both the great democracies show a ray of hope to the world and remain united against terrorism in all its forms.” This phone conversation between the two leaders took place at a time when US-India relations are strained over trade tariffs and other issues.
