Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor on Saturday claimed that the record turnout in the Bihar assembly elections indicates a desire for change, with 65.08% voters participating in the assembly elections.
He said, “These self-styled analysts are claiming that they know what is going to happen in Bihar. But no one had predicted that Bihar would see the highest turnout in the political history of the country. The survey numbers show that change is definitely coming in Bihar.”
Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party is his first foray into Bihar politics, and he claimed that the party offers a viable alternative to the existing political system.
Criticizing the NDA government, he said voters were looking for change after three decades of same politics.
He said, “The Prime Minister is trying to get votes by creating fear of RJD because he has nothing else to say. But this time the situation has changed. If you are saying that Jungle Raj should not come back, then why should you (NDA) come back? Jan Suraj is the new option.”
Meanwhile, on Friday he lauded the high voting percentage and said, “This is the highest voting percentage in Bihar since Independence. This reflects two things: one is what I said last year, and second is that more than 60% of the population of Bihar wants change. There was a sense of apathy that was growing among the people in trying to find an alternative. They had no alternative. After Jan Suraj came, people got an alternative. People have voted for change.”
The CEO of Bihar informed that the first phase of assembly elections was successfully held on November 6, 2025 on 121 seats in 18 districts of the state.
According to the CEO, the average voting in the 2020 Bihar Assembly general election was 57.29 percent, while the voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha general election was 56.28 percent. This reflects an overall increase in voter participation in the state compared to the last two elections.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar said that the elections held in the state this year saw an increase of 7.79 percent in the voting percentage compared to the 2020 Bihar Assembly general elections. Additionally, the voting percentage increased by 8.8 percent compared to the 2024 Lok Sabha general election.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comprising BJP, JDU, Hamas, LJP (RLD) and other parties is trying to return to power for the second time, while the grand alliance comprising Congress, RJD, Left parties and VIP is trying to return to power. Jan Suraj Party has also entered the electoral fray and is contesting on more than 200 seats alone.
These elections were held after the recently completed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Opposition parties had expressed strong objection to this process. This SIR is also to be done in other states and union territories of the country.
