Patna, October 28 (IANS). Sahebganj assembly seat of Muzaffarpur district of Bihar is considered one of the most important political seats in the state. Situated on the banks of river Baia, this area is surrounded by Mehsi and Kalyanpur of East Champaran district in the north and Baikunthpur of Gopalganj district in the south.
This seat is part of Vaishali Lok Sabha constituency and includes Sahebganj block as well as 20 gram panchayats of Paru block, including Anadpur Kharouni, Bahdinpur, Baijalpur, Chakki Suhagpur, Chandkewari, Deoria (East and West), Dharfari, Fatehabad, Giyaspur, Jafarpur, Jaimal Dumri, Kataru, Khutahin, Mohabbatpur, Mohajamma, Neknampur, Pandeh, Usti and Jalandhar Baitha Tola Bishunpur Saraiya are included.
Sahebganj assembly constituency was established in 1951. Elections were first held in 1952, but the area was removed from the electoral map in 1957. It was later restored again in 1962. Since then, elections have been held here 17 times, including one by-election (1982).
In the initial decades, the Congress Party dominated here, which won a total of 7 times. The last victory of Congress came in 1985. After this, Janata Dal, JDU and RJD won this seat twice each. At the same time, CPI, Lok Janshakti Party, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and an independent candidate also won once each.
Interestingly, the people of Sahebganj have repeatedly given importance to change in the last two decades. JDU’s Raju Kumar Singh was victorious in 2005 and 2010 elections. In 2015, the public gave a chance to RJD’s Ramvichar Rai. Raju Kumar Singh won again in 2020 as a VIP candidate, defeating RJD’s Ramvichar Rai.
Later Raju Kumar Singh joined BJP. Raju Kumar Singh is again contesting from BJP. RJD has made Prithvi Nath Rai its candidate. Whereas, Jan Suraj Party has given ticket to Thakur Hari Kishore Singh.
This region has the highest number of Rajput, Yadav, Muslim and Bhumihar voters, who have a direct impact on the election results. Apart from this, voters of Vaishya, Nishad and Other Backward Castes (OBC) have also proved decisive many times.
