Counting of votes is currently underway for assembly seats in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. According to the latest trends, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin is trailing in his constituency Kolathur. Meanwhile, as per early trends, actor Vijay’s party, TVK, is leading on around 74 seats. However, according to the Election Commission, TVK is currently leading on 2 seats; AIADMK is leading on 3 seats and DMK is leading on 1 seat.
In Kerala, LDF is leading on 53 seats. However, the UDF seems to be turning the tables; Congress-backed UDF has now taken lead on 83 seats. In Assam, BJP is leading on 69 seats, while in Puducherry, BJP is leading on 22 seats. In Tamil Nadu, DMK is leading on 46 seats. Exit polls released before the results had predicted the return of the Himanta-led government in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, the DMK seems likely to make a comeback, while in Kerala, the Congress-led UDF has the lead. In Puducherry, the NDA alliance seems certain to return to power.
Tharoor said: Within the first 75 minutes the trends started coming in our favor.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says: “The good news is that within just 75 minutes of the counting starting, there is a very clear trend in our favor; moreover, many well-known and popular leaders of the LDF are still trailing. I believe it is very clear that the voters of Kerala deserve congratulations; they have completely decided that the time for a change has come. Even those whose personal popularity is in question are trailing.” I see this as a very positive sign. Still, we don’t intend to celebrate in a hurry. However, I can see that a huge turnaround will be required to make the whole situation look quite different.”
