Chennai, March 31 (IANS). Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin is going to formally launch his election campaign on Tuesday for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He will start the campaign from Thiruvarur, which has been associated with his father and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
The beginning of the campaign from Tiruvarur is being considered very important from both political and symbolic point of view. Karunanidhi had won the 2011 and 2016 assembly elections from this seat. In such a situation, the party is seeing it as strengthening its ideological roots and heritage. Besides, this step is also part of the strategy to energize the workers.
CM Stalin will address a large public meeting on South Street near the historic Thyagarajaswamy temple in Thiruvarur. A large number of people are expected to attend the rally from the Cauvery delta region, which is traditionally considered a DMK stronghold.
On his first day of campaigning, Stalin will visit several assembly constituencies around Tiruvarur district. These include Mannargudi, Thiruvarur, Kizhvelur, Nannilam and Thiruthuraipoondi. The hectic schedule shows that the party is paying special attention to strengthening its hold in the Cauvery delta region, which plays a crucial role in election results.
According to the party, this election tour of CM Stalin will continue on April 1, when he will address voters in Tiruchirappalli and Karur districts. After this, on April 2, he will campaign in Erode and Coimbatore districts of western Tamil Nadu, where the contest is expected to be very tough.
This multi-phase election campaign of DMK reflects its strategy to maintain momentum across the state. The party is preparing the election environment on the basis of alliance, candidate selection and local issues. CM Stalin will mention the government’s achievements, public welfare schemes and future development plans in his speeches.
DMK has entered the fray with the aim of retaining power in the upcoming assembly elections. In such a situation, this campaign of Stalin is being considered as the beginning of a vigorous election campaign across the state.
