Chennai, July 22 (IANS). The Tamil Nadu government has invited applications from eligible candidates across the state for the appointment of non-hereditary trustees in 8,193 temples run under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department.
According to the announcement issued by the HR&CE department, this step has been taken with the aim of strengthening the administration of those temples which do not have hereditary trustees. These appointments will be made under Section 49(1) of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act, which empowers the government to constitute boards of trustees for temples managed by the department.
According to the official release, detailed notifications including the list of temples, eligibility conditions, application process and prescribed application format have been uploaded on the official website of the HR&CE department.
The department has appealed to the interested and eligible persons to read all the guidelines carefully before applying. Applicants can complete the application process through the online portal or download the prescribed application form from the website.
The application form along with necessary documents can be submitted in person to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of HR&CE Department in the concerned district or sent through speed post.
The department has fixed the last date for submission of applications on August 20 at 5:45 pm.
Officials have advised the applicants to ensure that all the required documents are attached with the application and reach the concerned office before the last date, to avoid rejection of the application.
This latest notification is part of a broader initiative by the state government to fill the posts of non-hereditary trustees in temples under the HR&CE department in a phased manner.
The department said that notifications regarding appointment of non-hereditary trustees have already been issued for 1,012 temples in the first phase. Apart from this, District Level Committees have also been constituted in 14 districts to facilitate the appointment process and monitor the selection of eligible candidates.
These committees are expected to play an important role in screening the applications and ensure that appointments are made in accordance with the provisions of the HR&CE Act.
According to officials, the phased appointment process is aimed at improving the administration of temples, enhancing administrative efficiency and ensuring better management of religious institutions functioning under the HR&CE department.
After the entire process is completed, it is expected to provide administrative support to thousands of temples in Tamil Nadu. It will also be ensured that all statutory procedures related to the appointment of trustees are followed uniformly across the state.
