Telangana: 1 lakh houses to be built under Indiramma scheme in Greater Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 5 (IANS). The Telangana government is committed to constructing one lakh houses under the Indiramma scheme in Greater Hyderabad. Minister of State Ponam Prabhakar said this on Sunday.

He said that the aim of the Congress government is to fulfill the dream of every poor family getting their own house. He also assured that the poor will be provided houses near their livelihood.

Transport and Backward Classes (BC) Minister Ponnam Prabhakar was speaking at an event where she handed over ownership documents to the beneficiaries of the housing scheme.

Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin, Government Whip Addanki Dayakar, MLAs Akbaruddin Owaisi, Majid Hussain and District Collector Dr. Priyanka Ala Lata were also present in the program.

Ponam Prabhakar said that the government aims to provide dignified permanent housing to deserving poor homeless families. He clarified that the government is working on a plan to build houses for the poor associated with various professions in Hyderabad city near their working areas.

The minister said the government understands the difficulties of people who were waiting for homes for the last ten years and regrets the delay.

Congratulating the beneficiary families, he called it a historic moment. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the government has prepared the housing policy keeping in mind the livelihood of the poor. It has been decided that using government lands, the poor will be given houses near their workplaces.

He said that a target has been set to build one lakh Indiramma houses in Greater Hyderabad.

Along with this, he said that ration cards have been given to all the eligible families and the government is working on the policy of issuing ration cards to the eligible applicants within 48 hours. Apart from this, 200 units of free electricity, quality rice distribution and other welfare schemes are also being implemented effectively.

He said that the government is giving priority to the economic empowerment of women. Emphasis is being laid on increasing the membership of women self-help groups in Hyderabad. Women are being given interest free loans and self-employment opportunities. Also, free bus travel for women has facilitated education, employment and other needs.

The minister also said that the government is paying special attention to providing employment to unemployed youth and the process of filling vacant posts in various departments is underway.
